  • What is an Australian Mountain Doodle?
The Australian Mountain Doodle (AMD) is a hybrid mix of the Australian Shepherd, Bernese Mountain Dog, and Poodle. This highly sought after breed is designed to bring the energy level of an Aussiedoodle down to a more laid back disposition of a Bernese Mountain Dog. It’s the perfect combination of the intelligence and eagerness to please of an Australian Shepherd, the calm, cozy, cuddly personality of a Bernese Mountain Dog, and the hypoallergenic and low to no shedding coat of a Poodle. They are wonderful with children and other pets making them the perfect addition to any family, even for an older couple, or single person looking for the best companion.
  • How big will my AMD get?
The average size of a standard AMD is 45-60 pounds, and for a mini AMD is 20-40 pounds.
  • What type of coat will my AMD have?
Australian Mountain Doodles have beautiful coats ranging from defined curls and the ‘doodle’ look with the bushy eyebrows, mustache, and beard ~ to a full straight to wavy coat with the ‘doodle’ look ~ to a straight, smooth coat without the ‘doodle’ look. We test all our puppies 4 days after they’re born to see if they are ‘furnished’ (will have the ‘doodle’ look) or ‘unfurnished’ (will not have the ‘doodle’ look). Puppies with at least one furnishing gene will have the doodle face with bushy eyebrows, mustache, and beard with a full coat that can vary from straight, to wavy, to soft defined curls that will be low to no shedding; whereas a puppy who is unfurnished will have smooth, straight hair on the face (such as an Australian Shepherd) with a straight, smooth coat. This coat will shed more than those who are furnished, but still way less than a full-blooded Australian Shepherd or Bernese Mountain Dog. The fun thing about this breed is the variety of colors they can come in - the sky’s the limit!
  • Why choose us for your new best friend?
There are some really great AMD breeders out there, and I can’t begin to tell you that we’re the most knowledgeable, most well equipped, or even the most organized in our breeding program. But what I can tell you is we LOVE what we do and we put unlimited amounts of daily love, care, research, resources, training, and undivided individual attention into these sweet babies and their parents. We love them so much and I believe that goes a long way to making them content and happy for the rest of their lives, because we are confident that you will love them and nurture them when they join your family as well! We follow the Puppy Culture program including early neurological stimulation from days 3 to days 16, which is a daily performance of five very specific exercises and positions that the puppies are put through that have been scientifically proven to enhance and strengthen their immune system, their adrenal system, their heart rate, and heartbeat. They are placed under a series of short, controlled moments of stress and then comforted immediately, which will go a long way to teaching them how to deal with stressful and/or uncomfortable situations. This helps them to become more well-rounded, more tolerant to outside stressors, and will enable them to become a more relaxed, confident companion as they grow. Starting just after their eyes and ears open, we begin to perform sound desensitization, startle/recovery responses, barrier challenges, tunnel exploration, uneven surface training, and the beginnings of clicker training for learning ‘manding’, which is a way for your puppy to speak to you - sitting to say please. They quickly learn that they have to sit before they are picked up, fed, petted, played with - and it’s incredible how quickly they pick up on this! They are also being trained to do their ‘business’ in a very specific area - their potty trays - which have potty pads and Alfalfa pellets in them, and then a specifically designed grate over top of the tray, which keeps their area free of potty, poo, shredded potty pads, or pellets. They learn this so quickly, as well, and it makes clean up a breeze for us - which is the best part! Because our parents have passed all of their health testing through Embark DNA, we can confidently offer a one-year genetic health guarantee for all of our puppies ensuring they are not at risk for developing over 274 genetic health concerns. They will also be up-to-date on worming, vaccinations, and a clear and healthy vet exam at the time they go home at our around 8-10 weeks of age. In addition, every puppy goes home with a new collar, leash, Snuggle Puppy and blanket with Mom and littermates' scent, a gallon sized bag of the puppy food he/she has been eating, a toy, and some favorite treats.
